Matthew Schaefer Collects Assist as He Nears Bobby Orr Record

Matthew Schaefer picked up an assist in the New York Islanders' 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Schaefer was initially credited with a goal that would have tied Bobby Orr's record of 24 goals by a teenage defenseman, but the goal was awarded to Jean-Gabriel Pageau upon review. Schaefer, who turned 19 in September, currently sits at 23 goals and remains on pace to surpass Orr's mark during the 2026-27 season.
