Austin Wells Moved Up in Lineup, Struggles in Yankees' Season-Ending Loss

Austin Wells was moved up to bat sixth in the Yankees' lineup for Game 3 of the ALDS against the Rays, a slight shakeup by manager Aaron Boone. Wells, who had a strong postseason start despite a difficult regular season, went 0-for-3 before being pinch-hit for in the eighth inning. The Yankees ultimately lost the game 4-3, ending their season. Despite the offensive struggles in this game, Wells had been performing well in the playoffs prior, earning respect for his approach and improvement throughout the regular season.
