Rangers Place Defenseman Matthew Robertson on Waivers to Open Roster Spot
The New York Rangers have placed 25-year-old defenseman Matthew Robertson on waivers to clear roster depth and cap space needed to recall a center following Joe Veleno's lower-body injury. Robertson, a 2019 second-round pick who recorded six goals and 18 points in 72 games for New York last season, lost his third-pair lineup spot to rookie Alberts Šmits. After being a healthy scratch for the team's first four games of the 2026-27 season, Robertson will be assigned to AHL Hartford if he clears waivers.
