Esmerlyn Valdez Placed on 10-Day IL with Hamstring Strain

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Esmerlyn Valdez on the 10-day injured list Saturday after the rookie outfielder strained his left hamstring running out a grounder Friday against Baltimore. Valdez will be out until at least Sept. 23. Jake Mangum will take over starting duties in right field, while Ronny Simon was recalled from Triple-A to bolster outfield depth.
