David Montgomery Shares Backfield as Jahmyr Gibbs Takes Lead Role

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery will see a shift in backfield dynamics as teammate Jahmyr Gibbs steps into the role of the primary offensive cog entering the 2026 season. Montgomery previously shared the rushing load with Gibbs over the past three seasons, helping form one of the league's most effective dynamic backfields. Detroit kicks off its regular season at home against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field, where both tailbacks look to make an early impact.
