Acquired by Mets in Trade for Left-Hander David Peterson

Cole Mathis has been traded to the New York Mets as the primary return in a deal sending veteran left-hander David Peterson to the Chicago Cubs. A minor league infielder, Mathis represents a roster shift for the Mets as they move on from their longest-tenured player. The transaction, reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, marks a significant transition for Mathis as he joins the Mets organization. The move is part of a broader effort by both teams to address specific roster needs.
