Boone Jenner faces extended absence for Blue Jackets with upper-body injury
Boone Jenner of the Columbus Blue Jackets is facing an extended absence due to an upper-body injury, as confirmed by head coach Dean Evason. The injury is not considered short-term. Jenner, 31, played in 58 games last season despite previous injury and personal matters, recording 22 goals (second on the team) and 35 points (fourth). He also contributed eight power-play points and 119 hits. Despite a history of injuries, including a season-ending back issue last year, Jenner has shown a 50-point upside and was signed to a four-year, $15 million contract extension in late July. He has consistently provided secondary stats, averaging over 100 hits in recent seasons, and has a career faceoff win rate of 54.7%. His previous seasons saw production of 26 goals and 45 points in 68 games, and 23 goals and 44 points in 59 games. Jenner's peak performance was a 30-goal, 49-point season in 2015-16. He has been a key player for the Blue Jackets, known for his gritty, two-way game and leadership, fitting well into the team's identity.
