Alex Ovechkin and Capitals Face Panthers in Extended Home Stand Opener

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are set to face the Florida Panthers as the Panthers begin a significant stretch of home games. Both teams hold identical 8-7-1 records through 16 games, marking a so-so start to their campaigns. The Capitals started strong, winning six of their first eight games, but have since struggled, losing six of seven at one point before a recent road win. A consistent bright spot for Washington has been goaltender Logan Thompson, who boasts a 7-4-0 record with a 1.56 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage, making him a Vezina Trophy contender. Thompson is expected to start in goal against the Panthers, likely facing Sergei Bobrovsky.
