Patrick Kane Nearing Return as Red Wings Coach Provides Optimistic Timeline
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane, sidelined since October 17 due to an injury sustained against the Tampa Bay Lightning, has missed eight consecutive games. While he was confirmed to miss the entirety of the current road trip, which concludes Tuesday evening against the Vegas Golden Knights, head coach Todd McLellan offered an optimistic update on his potential return. McLellan indicated that the re-assignment of Auston Watson to the Grand Rapids Griffins suggests a "really good chance" Kane could skate with the team on Thursday. The coach added, "we're hoping that he can practice with us and we'll see where it goes from there." Prior to his injury, Kane was on a strong scoring pace, tallying two goals and three assists for five points in five games. He signed a one-year contract on June 30, and this December will mark two years since he joined Detroit following his 2023 hip resurfacing surgery. The Red Wings have performed well in his absence, winning five of eight games, and currently sit second in the Atlantic Division and third overall in the Eastern Conference.
