Morgan Rielly Rebounds Offensively, Quarterbacks Power Play for Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has significantly stepped up his offensive game to start the 2025-26 season, contributing heavily to the team's scoring. After a challenging previous season with 41 points and defensive criticisms, Rielly, the longest-tenured Maple Leaf, entered training camp in excellent shape with a renewed attitude following discussions with GM Brad Treliving. He has since appeared less tentative and more willing to engage offensively, earning praise from coach Craig Berube for his play, including a game-winner against the Canadiens. Rielly currently has six points, tying him for third among league defensemen. He has also returned to quarterbacking the power play, a role previously held by Mitch Marner. While the power play unit has struggled early (2-for-14), Rielly's playmaking is expected to be crucial for its effectiveness.
