Zack Kelly Designated for Assignment by Red Sox in 40-Man Cut

Reliever Zack Kelly was designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox as the organization trimmed its roster down to 40 players. Kelly, known as one of the hardest throwers in the system, has thrown 131.1 innings for the Red Sox with a 104 ERA+ while battling frequent injuries. Despite a solid showing in limited innings this season, the fact that he was out of options ultimately influenced the surprising decision by the front office to remove him from the roster.
