San Diego Padres Add Left-Handed Prospect Luis Gutierrez to 40-Man Roster

The San Diego Padres have added 23-year-old left-handed starting pitcher Luis Gutierrez to their 40-man roster to protect him from minor league free agency. Rated as the organization's No. 12 prospect, Gutierrez logged 36 innings in 2026 while battling a shoulder injury, finishing the season with two starts for Triple-A El Paso. After posting a 3.31 ERA across 125 innings in 2025, Gutierrez is slated to compete for a spot in the rotation during Spring Training.
