Colin Rea Expected to Part Ways with Chicago Cubs This Offseason

Chicago Cubs swingman Colin Rea appears unlikely to return for the 2026 season after seeing limited action down the stretch, throwing just 12.1 innings over the team's final 33 games. The 36-year-old right-hander, who carries a low-4.00s ERA profile, holds a restructured $6.5 million deal for 2026 with a $7.5 million team option or a $1 million buyout. Chicago is anticipated to seek cheaper pitching options.
