Ian Happ: Underappreciated Cubs Player Facing Contract Decisions

Ian Happ has played 10 seasons with the Cubs, producing 25.3 bWAR and hitting 197 home runs, ranking 11th in team history. He has won four Gold Gloves. Despite his contributions, Happ is disliked by some fans due to his batting average (.218 in 2026, .243 career). He walks frequently, with a .341 career OBP and .442 career SLG. Teammates Dansby Swanson and Pete Crow-Armstrong praise his leadership and embodiment of the Cubs. The Cubs may offer him a qualifying offer, with a one-year deal with a vesting option being a potential extension.
