Ryan Johnson Acquired by Penguins in Trade with Buffalo Sabres

Defenseman Ryan Johnson was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch. The 25-year-old left-shot defender was taken 31st overall in the 2019 draft and has appeared in 47 career NHL games, though he has spent the start of the 2026-27 season in the AHL. Johnson is under contract through the 2027-28 season and gives Pittsburgh a former first-round pick to evaluate in their system.
